Meet Ms. Mata

The reason I decided to go into teaching was to make a difference in the lives of individuals. Teaching has been a very rewarding experience for me. I have worked with so many students in public schools and now Catholic school which is a total of 41 years of teaching. I have worked as a teacher, Curriculum Director, Part Assistant Principal and a librarian in middle school. Some years have been simple and others have been much more challenging. There has never been a school year that I can claim to be like the last one or 5 years ago…..every year brings new challenges and experiences.

My family has always sent their children to Catholic schools in Corpus Christi, Alice, and San Antonio. To my family Catholic Schools have modeled our children into responsible, emphatic, and religious individuals. I have been around children that have attended different Catholic Schools here in Corpus Christi. When I retired from public schools I decided I wanted to get more involved with my religion and I have been a Eucharistic Minister and a Lecturer at Most Precious Blood, St John the Baptist and Our Lady of Perpetual Help but I felt that by teaching in a Catholic School I could make a difference and at the same time be closer to my religion. I was lucky that St Pius X had an opening in technology and was able to become a part of this wonderful staff that I have always heard about from friends that sent their children to St Pius X. I always admired St Pius X Church every time I visited the church during weddings, communions, and baptisms.

The universities I attended to get my degrees were Texas A&I University in Kingsville Texas and Texas A&M Corpus Christi University. I received the following degrees:

  • Bachelors in Psychology and Spanish with a specialization in Elementary Education
